IFAD launches RemitSCOPE: a free global data platform to capture and facilitate remittances for rural development

“The platform aims to empower stakeholders—such as remittance service providers, policymakers, regulators, and development organizations—with insights that help them understand where remittances flow, the costs, market dynamics, accessibility and trends to maximize the business and development opportunities."

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) hasunveiled RemitSCOPE, a free and interactive web platform designed and developed by Acosta Design Lab. This innovative tool aims to improve access to digital remittances, reduce transfer costs, and promote financial inclusion in rural areas of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

RemitSCOPE provides reliable, up-to-date data on remittance flows, costs, accessibility, and market trends, supporting stakeholders such as operators, policymakers, and development organizations in creating innovative solutions. The platform focuses primarily on Africa and Latin America, with plans to expand to other regions in the future.

Remittances sent by migrant workers are a vital lifeline for millions of families in developing countries, surpassing $656 billion in 2023—more than foreign direct investments and official aid combined. With advanced features like country profiles, interactive dashboards, and detailed analyses, RemitSCOPE helps maximize the impact of these financial flows on education, healthcare, and local economic development.

According to Pedro de Vasconcelos, Manager of IFAD’s Financing Facility for Remittances, “RemitSCOPE offers valuable tools to better understand the remittance market and transform these flows into a lever for economic and social development in the most vulnerable rural communities.”

Widely praised by industry stakeholders such as Onafriq and IAMTN, the platform positions itself as an essential resource to foster transparency, innovation, and inclusivity in the global remittance ecosystem.
